Stunning scenery of Kahurangi National Park and surrounding farms. Very well trained horses. The only thing my daughter got sad about- horses were not very keen to run, my beautiful Annie got short of breath after each trot or canter some runs were uphill.

We ride for many years and probably were expecting more keen horses- or maybe it was because of hot day. After trek we spend the night in comfortable hut and had delicious food prepared by Fiona. Thank you for great experience. Date of experience: December It was a pleasure to meet you all , yes was very hot day over 30 degrees, so horses not as keen as usual! Take care fiona. StevenC75 wrote a review Dec There aren't many horse riding stables able to simultaneously accommodate both experienced life long riders and those with much less experience but Baton Run both promised this and delivered.

It's a moderate drive from the Motueka Valley Hwy but the unsealed road is good condition and the expansive views make it enjoyable even before reaching the stables. The ride took in the sheep covered hills, a ridge overlooking the valley and several river crossing including deeper water which the horses and us loved.

The horses looked in great condition, defined muscular, full of energy and not obviously tired by our half day ride. Unlike most riding school horses, they had few bad habits but had character and were a pleasure to ride for both me experienced and my less experienced partner. Lunch was delicious including farm produce and had been tailored to be low lactose, by request. Both Fiona and her young assistant were full of suggestions and tips and always ready to take pictures or assist making for a very personal service.

I've generally stopped reviewing my travels but had to share this real gem. Thank you so much Steve , it was lovely to meet you. Cee wrote a review Sep The reviews are true. Enjoy a perfect day in the NZ countryside. We were so fortunate to have amazing ride out with Fiona, on her lovely horses. The driving directions to Baton Run are correct. Feeling my old age, I was nursing an old injury and not feeling over confident. I was coaxed by my daughter to join her for a days riding.

Fiona chose her quietest horse for me. Fiona is safety conscious and aware of her guests individual needs. We left the yard and headed out towards the perfect hills and beyond. Lambing season had begun and we rode past sheep, and many lambs frolicking in the spring sunshine, and a stunning back drop of snow glistening on the distant mountains. On our return, Fiona and her husband Richard prepared a delicious and generous lunch, which we washed down with a choice of cool drinks.

If you love horses and want to see the real New Zealand countryside and meet some down to earth New Zealanders, do not miss a ride with Fiona at Baton Run Adventures. Thank you Fiona and Richard. Denis M wrote a review Feb My friend Martin and I stayed at Stonefly for 5 days in January The litany of five star reviews below are very well founded. As someone with a background at the very top of the service industry, I am only too well aware that excellence does not come about by accident.

No detail was left unchecked and all this in a quite jaw dropping setting.

If I were sitting in any Michelin starred restaurant anywhere worldwide, I would have been delighted with what was put in front of me Three triple A chefs who worked hard to produce food of the very highest order. Super, super nice staff across the board Best wishes guys Date of stay: January Location.

What people love about Avalon Manor Motel

Date of stay: November Rooms. MSmith wrote a review Dec I had the profound privilege to travel this month for the first time to New Zealand's Stonefly Lodge for seven December days of fly fishing before Christmas. Simply put, my trip was nothing short of spectacular and surpassed my high expectations in nearly every area.

The highlights were many. I experienced epic fly fishing for monster browns, most on nymphs but including several on small dries, despite high water and less than ideal conditions. I returned every afternoon to this extraordinary lodge, comfortable and beautiful, and received unexpectedly mind-blowing multi-course, memorable, gourmet meals every night, highlighting local meats, fish, fruit and vegetables all delivered personally by outstanding chefs. And on top of all of it, John, Kate and team wrap all of the guests in warm and wonderful hospitality. Mind blown. And did I mention the fishing?

Huge browns.

I caught my personal best trout on three of the first four days. I caught fish every day. Big, bruising, beautiful browns. Yes, you work for them. The fishing can be technical, casting super long, light leaders and small flies at seemingly small target areas, at times battling the wind and your nerves as you approach wary trout.

You may walk miles. You will lose some battles. But when it all comes together, it is New Zealand at its finest Fish seemingly from another planet, hooked in an unforgettable setting, tight to your line, and forming memories for a lifetime. Don't miss Stonefly. Of course, there are many ways to experience NZ, including DIY, but when you want the best -- wonderful comfort, care, hospitality, and cuisine -- go here!.

Pictures show it best. Here are a few of mine! Date of stay: December Value. Jan H wrote a review Dec Incredible stay - beautiful lodge - amazing hosts. This lodge was everything we had hoped for The hosts, John and Kate, were superb! This was truly a unique experience The hosts made us feel like family -- we hiked their property, played with Kinsey the family dog , visited with the alpaca, and dined with John and Kate.
